Dante Alighieri

5 THINGS YOU (MAYBE) DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE GREAT FLORENTINE POET DANTE ALIGHIERI:

  • His real name is: Durante Alagherii de Alagheriis. Dante is short.
  • At first his great work was called "Comedia". The adjective 'Divine' was added only about 200 years later by the writer Giovanni Boccaccio, who called it Divine.
  • The original manuscript of the Divine Comedy has been lost.
  • On his death the last song of the Divine Comedy had not been published. It was his son Jacopo, who was responsible for spreading it together with the complete work.
  • Just this year (2021) it is 700 years since his death: 1321.
